Our Saturday club is aimed at younger riders who range from 5 years upwards
It runs from 10.00am to 2:00pm and riders get the chance to have a lesson, learn new stable management skills and just enjoy being around the ponies in the fresh air!

Clubmark Accreditation
Barguse is thrilled to learn that we have been awarded Clubmark status.
We are not only the first riding school in Cornwall to have achieved this accreditation but also currently one of only 24 establishments in the whole of the UK to have received Clubmark approval.
Feldenkrais
We are pleased to be able to offer regular feldenkrais sessions at Barguse, Feldenkrais offers a unique and practical way to realise our potential more fully.
It is an educational method focusing on learning and movement, which can bring about improved movement and enhanced functioning.

Barguse competition results for 2010 these are the results.
BHS Horse Owner’s Certificate Level One
We have had enquiries from both riding school clients and private owners as to whether we would consider or be likely to run a BHS Horse Owner’s Certificate. We are happy to say that we will be running a Level One course this autumn.
The course will be taken by one of our instructors Elissa Hebborn, BHSII and is open to anyone over the age of 12 and for both horse owner’s or potential horse owner’s who would like to learn more about the welfare and care of our four legged friends!
You do not need to be a member of the BHS to attend this course.
It will consist of 90 minute sessions and will start at 6pm (the days and times are still to be confirmed subject to demand).
The horse owner’s certificate consists of four levels of theory/qualification and Level One will be starting in September 2010. You will cover the following topics.
- Knowledge of horse types, uses, colours and markings.
- Elementary stable management.
- Knowledge of care and maintenance required to keep a horse healthy and comfortable in a stable.
- Stable routine and safety in the stable. Safe handling of both the horse and equipment necessary for his well-being. A knowledge of substances in common use which require particular care and/or storage.
- Identification of items of tack in common use and naming of the parts.
- Basic care of tack. Ability to take to pieces, inspect for safety, clean and re-assemble.
- Reasons and principles of grooming. Knowledge of the items in a grooming kit and their use.
- Basic knowledge of shoeing and care of the foot.
- Recognition of signs of health and ill health and when to call a vet.
- Temperature, pulse, respiration and the signs of health.
- Preventative treatments - worming, flu-vac etc. A basic knowledge of the need to worm and vaccinate.
- Elementary principles of watering and feeding. Rules of feeding and watering.
- A knowledge of buying a horse. Points to look for. The need for a vet to assess the
- horse before purchase.
- Elementary rules for preparing a horse for a ride; riding out on the roads; returning from a ride; riding dress.
