Our Saturday club is aimed at younger riders who range from 5 years upwards
It runs from 10.00am to 1:00pm and riders get the chance to have a lesson, learn new stable management skills and just enjoy being around the ponies in the fresh air!
Hi, I'm Celena and I work on the yard. I have been riding since I was 5, taught by my mum. Lucky me! I still ride with my mum and we own three horses. One is my American bred sports horse appaloosa. I hope we will compete in all disciplines and having just broken him, I am looking forward to the hard work!
I love working at Barguse, around the horses all day with my little dog Edward who is very popular with all the clients!
I'm Rachel and help out with Sat club and Pony Club Camp. I'm mum of two, Myles, 11 and Holly, 9. I work part time at Brannel School in the library, as well as full time mum and housewife. We have two ponies, Drummer, a 14.2 hh bay cob and Barnie an 11. 2hh Welsh Section a. My passion is for endurance riding, I get to ride some amazing countryside that you wouldn't normally be able to ride across.
My biggest achievement with Drum so far was being able to ride in two National Competitions last year at Nottingham and Cirencester and winning an award for the best cob with the most points of the season.
Holly, Myles and myself love coming to Barguse and taking part in all the pony club activities as it's not all about riding, it's the social aspect as well and the children have made lots of new friends with the same interest.
Hi, I'm Elissa. I have been a freelance instructor for years now! I qualified as an AI in 1984 and became a BHSII in 1991.I am also qualified as a BHS Riding and Road Safety Trainer.
When I'm not teaching I compete regularly at local and national level in both dressage and horse trials on my own horses. I teach riders of all levels including pony club, riding club and private owners.
My special interests are flatwork and cross country and I particularly enjoy teaching nervous/ anxious riders who need guiding gently in the art of riding!
Hi, I'm Lisa and own the Centre with my husband Alistair. I currently own an advanced dressage mare called Minnie and a youngster called Finn, as well as numerous riding school ponies/horses!
When I'm not caring for my little boy, Alex, I can be found teaching private horse owners and the Dressage Academy. You can read my profile under the dressage training section.
Hi, I'm Shirley. I work full time in the yard, getting the ponies/horses ready for people to ride and booking in clients for their lessons. My daughter is the rider although when I was younger I rode a lot, taking part in competitions etc. During my teenage years I taught others to ride but that was before you had to have qualifications!!
I stopped riding to have children and it was 20 years before I rode again, now not so confidently!! I taught my daughter to ride and also broke in her first pony.
Andrea Greenaway is one of our coaches for our Saturday Club as well as teaching private lessons. In her past life, Andrea used to event and work with point to pointers and has even had a go at race riding!!
She has two children, Jasmine and Michael and they own an assortment of ponies and horses which they can be seen on taking part in gymkhana games and on the
hunting field. That’s versatility for you!
Andrea loves the fun side of teaching and this can be seen quite evidently from her lessons!
Hi, my name is Sara and I am 36 years young.
I have been working with horses ever since I left school and I have also worked as a Restaurant manager for 5 years. I think that horses deserve our respect as we are so privileged to be able to ride such noble beasts. There are no short cuts to learn to ride well, so I try to make all my lessons fun while instilling confidence and a knowledge of the correct way to ride.
As an instructor I think my qualities are patience, empathy and above all I am sympathetic.
I attended Duchy College for a year. The course I chose was the 'National Certificate in the management of horses'. I also have my BHSAI.
Finally, I have been working at Barguse Riding Centre for 2 years and I'm happy to say that I thoroughly enjoy my job.
Hi, I'm Maxine.
I've been teaching for seven years and love seeing my pupils of all ages and abilities gaining confidence, progressing, having fun and enjoying riding and competing.
In addition to my BHS AI teaching qualification I've gained valuable experience competing, working and producing competition horses.
I always look forward to my lessons and building good relationships with my pupils whether beginners, novices or the more experienced riders aiming for competitions.
I enjoy all disciplines but my favourite and specialist is showjumping. I get great pleasure encouraging pupils of all ages to have a go at jumping and I also enjoy working with aspiring riders preparing and planning for competitions helping them rise through the levels and realising their ambitions.
When I'm not teaching I'm often travelling to competitions including county shows and national championships all over the country.
I also train horses up through the levels with the focus on good flatwork and creating a bond - we always have a full yard which keeps me busy!
